Fantasy Hockey tip(s) of the day/week Pay attention to stats such as ATOI (average time on ice), especially early in the season. You can find this stat on NHL.com under the stats section which you can then use to see a players average time on the ice for the game as well as their average time on the ice while on the PP or while shorthanded. A lot of times you can find some hidden gems that are getting good average ice time for the game as well as on the PP where a lot of points are actually scored. As a rule of thumb for forwards look for guys averaging 15+ minutes per game as well as 2+ minutes of PP time per game. For defenseman look for guys averaging 20+ minutes per game that are also getting 2+ minutes of PP time per game. They might not be producing just yet and that is why they are thus far overlooked but often times if they keep getting good ice time the numbers will start to come. When drafting your fantasy hockey team try to stay away from players that are older or often injured. Players tend to break down easier as they get older so try to stick with players 30 years of age or younger unless they are a proven durable player. This will save you many headaches during the season. |
